Overview

To get started you’ll learn how to use an electronic tuner. This is one of the quickest ways to get tuned up so you can start playing.

Goal: Be able to tune your guitar with a tuner.

Practice Speed: N/A.

OF NOTE:

  1. Most tuners have a green light which turns on when a string is in tune.
  2. Pick a string and adjust the tuning knob until the green light comes on.
  3. Red lights will show if the string is sharp (#) or flat (b).
  4. Sharp means the string is too high or tight; loosen it with the knob.
  5. Flat means the string is too low or loose; tighten it with the knob.
  6. If the string is too far out of tune it won'’t register properly.
  7. Make sure the correct name of the string is also showing when the green light comes on.
  8. From thickest to thinnest the string names are E, A, D, G, B, and E.
  9. If the guitar is too far off you may need help getting it tuned the first time.
